Spare Tire Carrier Fabrication
Made out of steel bed frame rails. I fabricated it as I went along. There had evidently been one installed on the trailer at some point in it's life because the belly skin was cut away in that area and the bolts for attaching it were there. I used my small wire feed welder to assemble the frame. That thing has really come in handy!

I made a handle for lowering it down, and put the tire valve side down so the pressure can be checked without having to remove it.

Simple frame construction.

This is a view of the bracket I welded to support the front of the carrier. There are two holes in the vertical rails that line up with two holes in the front of the carrier. There will be a lock slipped through one of the holes and a quick latch through the other.

It is really very easy to get down and remove the tire, as well as easy to lift up. Hopefully I will never need to use it! I was smart enough to put the tire valve facing downward so I can check the pressure without having to lower it.

There is still plenty of ground clearance, and it isn't any lower than a factory installed carrier. I made it snug so there was no chance of the tire moving. There is no where for it to go anyway.

In the "up" position.
