"Doing the frame work"

The skin is "unhooked" around the front perimeter of the trailer so I can repair outriggers, weld the step plate, wire brush and POR 15 the entire frame. I did this all the way around the trailer, as well as removing the belly skin. I just didn't take pictures of everything. Or maybe I did, but just can't find them.

I lived under this trailer for nearly 3 months cleaning it down. What a nightmare!

Not a pretty sight, but it sure feels good to know that the frame is all painted and repaired... by me.

With the belly skin hanging low you can see the cross members. These have already been sanded and painted. The 33 year old plywood still looked brand new under there.

A closer view. You can see the "elevator bolts" that hold the floor to the frame with the classic "Airstream Bend" to it. I suppose that was done so the nuts couldn't work themselves off. Nuts to you too.

Yes, this was my home. My neighbors thought I had moved under the trailer, rather than in it.

And... the closeup!

That notch is where the new axle will go back in. To the left is the water tank. That got pulled also and the frame fixed where it had rusted through.

More views of the frame after painting. That bend in the frame is where someone must have tried to jack the trailer.

NEVER JACK THE TRAILER FROM ANYWHERE BUT BETWEEN THE WHEELS.

Here is where I started to put in new insulation. I also ran plumbing for a future gray water tank. The pressure treated lumber was attached to the frame to give me more area to reattach the belly skin to. It was originally riveted in to the tiny strip of metal on the cross members... which is why they tend to pop off eventually.

This is where the water tank had been, and water had rusted through the frame.

The steel is welded in at this point and painted with POR 15. It ain't pretty, but it ain't going anywhere.

Yes, those are my knees.

I ran the steel as far up as I could for added strength.

I found this guy living under the trailer. It wasn't a pretty sight.
